The Darker Side of Deodorant

*Note that I'm not just talking about one brand of deodorant, I'm talking about almost all deodorants.)

Hola my healthy friends! Today I'm going to be talking about deodorant and the not-so-healthy components in it. Many products on the market might blind us by using flashy colours on the packaging, or by promoting ads that promise us the body we'll never have. Deodorant isn't that different, it promises that you'll smell as sweet as a rose or as manly as a lion. Although not many people look at the different ingredients or chemicals in the products that they're using. What's so bad about deodorant? It helps me smell good and not sweat like a pig, what's the problem? Well perhaps you should have a look at the risk factors that deodorant poses.

  • Renal failure can occur
Anyone who has even a mild case of renal dysfunction (kidney problems) can put themselves at a higher risk of sickness. Death is a possibility too although this would only happen in severe cases. People with problems with their kidneys should consult a doctor before deciding to buy an antiperspirant that is right for them.
  • The possibility of having breast cancer could be higher
Studies haven't come outright and said that some deodorants could be as dangerous as to give you breast cancer, but it is possible. Most deodorants contain harmful substances and someone with sensitive skin could most definitely have a bad reaction. They contain different kinds of parabens, which are preservatives, and also aluminum chlorohydrate which is aluminum and chlorine mixed together. These substances can get into the bloodstream or even accumulate in the breast tissue.

  • Aluminum chlorohydrate is not supposed to be in our bodies
As I mentioned before, aluminum chlorohydrate is a mixture of aluminum and chlorine. Aluminum chlorohydrate is in practically every deodorant and it shouldn't be. Even if the Food and Drug Administration says that having a small amount in antiperspirants is alright, do you really want to take that chance? Especially in the Summer when we're all sweating that's when we use it the most. These companies don't care about your health, they just want your money! So they put certain ingredients in antiperspirants that can actually kill you.

So what now? Now that you know all of this you still don't want to smell bad! You need an alternative. This is the main message in this post; find an alternative. Look for deodorants without aluminum chlorohydrate in it because there are still some out there! For example I have one from Soft & Dri which says that is has no aluminum on the front. It's probably not 100% great for the skin but at least it's a start. Plus it smells good without being overpowering and stinky. Try it or try another brand, but have a look at your local pharmacy for an antiperspirant without all this unhealthy garbage.

Stay healthy,
StarZinger
